For the first time in the TRNC, two doctors have been found guilty of negligence.
A court case had begun six years ago against gynaecologist and surgeon Dr Sevket Alpturk as well as anaesthetist Dr Eray Deliceirmek.
The case had been started by the Fellahoglu family following the death of Gamze Fellahoglu, the owner of the Fellahoglu jewellery store. She had a caesarean section in January 2007 but died shortly after.
Judge Bertan Ozerdag of Nicosia Criminal Court heard the case over two years and passed a judgement yesterday after listening to the testimony of many expert witnesses.
He found both doctors guilty of negligence in the care of Gamze Fellahoglu and ordered them to pay TL 50,000 each in compensation to the Fellahoglu family.
The operation had been undertaken at the clinic belonging to Dr Alpturk.
