Caglayan Cesurer, leader of EL-SEN electricity workers’ union, speaking at a press conference yesterday, said that there was no truth in the rumour that electricity workers were exempt from paying their bills. This situation had existed in the early 1990’s but had been replaced by collective bargaining.
Mr Cesurer said that it was unthinkable that KIB-TEK would be allowed to go bankrupt.
He claimed that one of the reasons for its poor financial position was the guarantees provided by the state to the private electricity provider AKSA.
Payments to AKSA would total US$ one billion by the year their contract ends in 2024, he said.
