After the oil spill disaster at Kalecik, safety measures are being tightened at the main Teknecik power plant.
The plant is running out of fuel to power its generators and has only a few days’ supply left.
There is a cargo ship ready to offload additional fuel but so far it has not received permission to do so.
It will not be allowed to discharge its cargo of fuel oil until mobile barriers are installed. These would contain any accidental discharge and minimise its impact. The Department of the Environment has insisted on this precaution.
As a temporary measure, unused barriers will be borrowed from AKSA power plant at Kalecik. After that, however, Teknecik will be required to supply its own barriers.
