Greek Cypriots no longer apply to the Immovable Property Commission (IPC) as they did in the past. The IPC cannot make any decisions, writes Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Havadis’ adding that “as soon as Turkey cut off the money for compensations, the mission of the IPC failed”.

The adventure of the Property Compensation Commission, which started in 2006, has come to a halt because of various reasons”, notes the paper adding that “even though the Commission remains a legal entity, the Greek Cypriots do not apply and the applications are not completed because of the lack of financial support”.

Pointing to the “serious decrease” in Greek Cypriot applications to the Commission, the paper reports that while 1,926 Greek Cypriots had applied to the IPC in 2011, this number fell to 49 in 2016 and 8 in the first three months of 2017.

Since 2006, the Commission has paid 231,447,174 pounds sterling to Greek Cypriot claimants.
