Former President Mehmet Ali Talat, in an interview yesterday, commented on the decision of the South Cyprus House of Representatives to set aside the vote it held last month regarding the commemoration of the 1950 plebiscite in favour of unification of Cyprus with Greece (enosis) in schools.
Talat stated that this development is enough for the negotiations to be launched again and added that an apology should not be expected by the Greek Cypriot side on the subject.
As Talat said, President Mustafa Akinci has said that an apology should be issued and that this was a condition for re-starting the stalled Cyprus negotiations.
