Prime Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun met with Bayrak Radio Television Corporation’s Board of Directors who were making a series of visits to state and government officials on the occasion of the corporation’s 53rd anniversary.
Chairman of the BRTK Board of Directors Huseyin Çobanoğlu said that the corporation which had been established as the voice of the Turkish Freedom Fighters had become the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people as well as the TRNC’s public broadcaster.
“Our mission to that end continues because the just cause of the Turkish Cypriot people is continuing” he said.
Prime Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun replied that the government attached great importance to Bayrak Radio Television Corporation which he added was the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people.
“Strengthening BRT and ensuring that it continues to be the voice of the people is amongst our top priorities”, he said, adding that the corporation was a corner stone in the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ struggle for existence.
The Prime Minister also said that pending law relating to BRTK will be passed by parliament as soon as possible.
Pointing out that it was important for BRT to keep up with the latest advances in broadcasting; Ozgurgun said that this need has become even more important in an environment where BRT is competing with private broadcasters.
“This is why the BRTK law needs to be passed as soon as possible. I will personally follow up on that” he noted.
