Two Turkish Cypriots were arrested in January 2009 for attempting to enter the TRNC using fake passports.
Abdullah Sanci and Okkes Gilgil had attempted to enter using different names and identities. Upon their arrest, they confessed that they had obtained their passports from a Hasan Birsik. He had purchased them for £1000 from two Turkish Cypriots living in England.
Since then Mr Birsik has been on the TRNC wanted list and last week he was arrested attempting to enter the TRNC via Ercan airport.
Yesterday Mr Birsik was set free on bail until the police concluded their investigations. He had to pay over TL 10,000 deposit as well as a guarantee of TL 30,000 by a TRNC citizen.
