Famagusta rehabilitation centre has opened a ‘Down café’.
The café will be manned by disabled youngsters (over 18) who are studying at the centre and offers a menu that covers sandwiches, savoury snacks and many varieties of ice creams.
The idea is to give those working there a sense of responsibility, self-confidence and the ability to have social interactions.
The head of the Rehabilitation Centre, Hawa Oztenay, says that there are 28 youths being trained at the centre. Three of these attend to the café every week on a rotating basis.
There are apparently Down Café’s all over the world which also teach the workers there how to deal with money.
