The Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association of Turkey (MUSIAD) will hold its “European General Consultation Meeting” in the TRNC between 28th February and 1st March 2014. In statements made yesterday during a meeting with Speaker of the House Sibel Siber, the chairman of MUSIAD and Okay Sadikoglu President of MUSIAD (TRNC), said that around 1,000 businessmen are expected to take part in the conference which is intended to promote the TRNC.
Sadikoglu noted that they support the “ethical trade” principle. He argued that the TRNC does not need “gambling tourism” and added that the night clubs do not contribute to the country. He noted that the TRNC has a “bad image” because of the casinos and the night clubs and added that they are trying to change this image.
In her statements, Dr Siber emphasised the importance of “moral values”, noting that trade which is carried out without being committed to these values negatively affected the people and the environment. She drew attention to the importance of the promotion of the TRNC and to the organisation of the European General Consultation Meeting in the TRNC.
She said that every effort should be made to gain the maximum benefit from these meetings; adding that “a small island is living under embargoes” and they should work to have these embargoes lifted.
