UN special advisor on Cyprus, Alexander Downer met with President Eroglu today (Tuesday) having visited President Anastasiades in the South earlier on in the day.
He did not wish to give details on what had been discussed, merely saying that both sides were hard at work trying to formulate a mutually agreed draft joint statement.
Downer said that talks were at a critical stage and that it would be best not to give details on the process which, he said, was sensitive. He added that both sides needed to feel comfortable with the joint statement.
Agreement on a joint statement has been the stumbling block for the re-start of negotiations on the Cyprus issue.
