A successful emergency blood donation campaign was launched in September.
However the blood stocks collected during the campaign have already been depleted. Twenty thalassemia patients have had their treatment disrupted over the last few days because the hospitals have run out of blood supplies.
Head of the Thalassemia Association, Ahmet Varoglu, has said that the situation is now as bad as the critical period in September before the donor campaign. He added that the number of patents requiring blood treatments will rise daily.
