The fire that began in South Cyprus and spread across the border into the TRNC has left an immense amount of damage in its wake.
Thousands of trees have been reduced to ashes and huge swathes of green forest are now blackened.
After a considerable struggle, the fires have been put out and now the long task of damping the embers has begun. Even today there have been sporadic flare-ups. Forestry department employees and army personnel will be patrolling today and tonight in case any fires start up again.
The Forestry Department is already formulating a plan for the replanting of the area.
Claims of arson have been circulating, emphasizing the fact that three separate fires were started, all of them were located near military areas.
