The Foreign Ministry has said that South Cyprus continues damaging the Cyprus negotiations in an “irredeemable manner” with the “unilateral steps” it takes.
In a written statement, the ministry said that the latest example of this was the South’s efforts to take new unilateral steps “which reject the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people” by its “illegal hydrocarbon activities” in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Referring to the agreements signed on Wednesday and Thursday with foreign energy companies to search for hydrocarbons in three blocs in South Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), the ministry says that these are a “clear sign” that the Greek Cypriot leadership had not abandoned the stance which “does not accept the Turkish Cypriots as equal owners of the island”.
