President Mustafa Akinci made a statement after a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, saying that talks would restart on 11 April.

Akinci said: “We have had the opportunity to convey the developments that have been taking place since Geneva to the UN Secretary-General. We clarified our positions on various matters and details.

Once again we had the opportunity to confirm our commitment to settlement in Cyprus with two zones, two communities, political equality, answering both parties’ concerns, allowing both communities to live in equality, freedom and security.

As the Turkish Cypriot side, we are prepared to begin negotiations on Tuesday (April 11th), which was seen as the appropriate date for both parties on Sunday, April 2nd.

Our position on this subject is very well known. It has been explained many times, there is no need to repeat it. The common understanding is that the developments in the coming days will make it possible to make this new beginning.

I will be limited to that. I hope the process will produce good results for all interested parties.”
