Work on the Gecitkoy Reservoir Recreation Area project is progressing well. The project is being carried out jointly by the Turkish General Directorate of Forestry and the TRNC Forest Department. The target is to complete the project in May.
According to a statement made by the TRNC Forestry Office, the scheme includes a Nature Protection Area, Wildlife Area and New Forestation Areas.
The recreation area will be over 220 hectares. There will be footpaths, children’s play areas, including facilities for children with disabilities, an adventure park, bike trails and mountain bike trails.
There will be picnic areas and wildlife observation posts.
Renewable energy will be used to meet the power requirement for the Recreation Area.
TRNC Forestry Director Altay Fırat said that the idea of the project was to bring leisure and recreation opportunities for the people, in natural surroundings, in an environmentally friendly way.
