Former Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat has strongly condemned the majority decision adopted by the South Cyprus parliament regarding the celebration in public schools of the 1950 referendum on enosis (union with Greece). The idea of enosis constituted the beginning of disastrous events in Cyprus.
Recalling that the decision was a proposal submitted by the fascist ELAM party, Talat argued that this is nothing else but an effort to sabotage the peace process and lead it into deadlock.
Referring to President Anastasiades’ statement “You should not celebrate the 20th of July as well”, Talat said that the two events are not the same.
Star Kibris reports that Talat said that those wanting enosis are in need of psychiatric treatment.
