Strong winds, hail and rain has been battering the northern and eastern coastline.
Trees were uprooted and the beacon at the entrance of the old harbour in Kyrenia was destroyed this morning as a result of the stormy weather.
Extreme weather conditions also caused a ship to run aground
off the coast near Famagusta port. The ship’s crew were rescued by the TRNC coast guard.
Police have warned drivers to be careful, particularly in the Kyrenia area because of heavy rain and possible landslides along mountain roads.
Wet and cold weather will continue for the next few days, according to the Meteorological Department’s most recent forecast.
Rain and isolated storms which will continue until the end of the week will be accompanied by a small drop in temperature.
