The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) has filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court against the Council of Ministers, asking for the annulment of citizenships, granted recently by the UBP-DP coalition government. The CTP also asked for the suspension of these citizenships as well as the political rights of those granted citizenship until the lawsuit has been decided.

On the same issue, Mehmet Ali Talat, CTP leader and former Turkish Cypriot President, told Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Kibris’ that they have brought to trial the practices of a minority government on citizenship. He further said: “We do not have any other resort than to go to trial against these illegal activities. This government thinks that it owns the country and acts on its will, without taking into consideration that it is a minority government. It decides to grant citizenships without security documents, health certificates. In fact, it acts as a sultanate regime.”
