President Nicos Anastasiades will meet with UK Prime Minister Theresa May on Tuesday.
They are expected to discuss the latest development on the Cyprus problem and the on-going negotiations between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders.
Anastasiades will also brief May on the trilateral meeting between himself, President Mustafa Akinci and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon held on the side-lines of the UN General Meeting in New York.
Both Cypriot leaders expressed reiterated their commitment to finding a comprehensive solution by the year’s end, although no time-frame had been drawn up.
As one of the Cyprus guarantors, the UK, which has two Sovereign Bases on the island, has a particular interest in Cyprus.
On Monday evening, Anastasiades attended a dinner in his honour hosted by the National Federation of Cypriots in the United Kingdom.
At the dinner, Anastasiades said he was determined to carry on working for a solution to the decades-long problem that would end the division of the island, with a negotiated settlement which would be “viable and workable and will the concerns of both (Greek and Turkish Cypriot) communities.”
“I am determined to work for a settlement of the Cyprus issue. But a settlement that meets – and I stress this – the expectations and the concerns of the Greek Cypriots. I will not disregard the concerns of the Turkish Cypriots, but I will not overestimate false concerns of the Turkish Cypriots at the expense of Greek Cypriots”, Anastasiades said.
The Greek Cypriot president is being accompanied in the UK by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides, and other officials.
On Wednesday, Anastasiades will fly to Paris for talks with French President Francois Hollande and is due to return to Cyprus later that day.
