A new road connecting the Mesaoria plain with the Kyrenia coast is to be constructed, the Minister of Public Works and Communications Kemal Durust announced.
At the formal signing of an agreement with the Tarmac Asphalt Concrete Construction, the minister said that the 5.5km road will act as a link between the Mesaoria plain and the Kyrenia coast, providing easier and quicker access for tourists who plan to visit Kyrenia.
Durust said that the road which will run between Görneç and Alevkayası, would be four meters wide and would cost around 1.2 million Turkish Lira.
He added that a project would be drafted to add a cycling lane in the near future.
Touching upon other projects, Durust said that a project to ease congestion at the Gönyeli roundabout will be announced in the near future.
He said that in addition to ongoing work on the İskele-Çayırova road, work on renewing the tarmac on the Nicosia-Kyrenia dual carriage way is set to start soon.
The minister noted that no funding would be spared for road works during the UBP-DP’s term in office.
