General Secretary of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhurman, has said that both Prime Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas, had not expressed the slightest criticism directly to President Mustafa Akinci during the recent meeting of the parliamentary party leaders and representatives held at Akinci’s office to evaluate developments in the Cyprus problem.

In statements to Diyalog TV, Erhurman recalled that he had also been present at the meeting and added that if the government does not trust Akinci, it should state this and give concrete reasons.

Referring to the criticism expressed by Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertugruloglu against Akinci, [The Foreign Minister in an interview with Diyalog TV said that Akinci was following his own “political obsession” and that he could not see Akinci taking a stand against the extreme demands of the Greek Cypriots], Erhurman condemned the language used by Ertugruloglu adding that “when the level fells below a certain point we must remain silent”.

Asked to comment on the statement [made by Ozgurgun] that “Morfou is our red line and it cannot be returned”, Erhurman said that he had read the minutes of the Cyprus negotiations and that during the meeting, Akinci had been asked about the issue. It was found that no place names, maps and percentages have been discussed to date in the territory chapter in Cyprus negotiations.  He noted that these issues will not be discussed during the seven meetings being held until 14th September.
