Presidents Mustafa Akinci and Nicos Anastasiades met on this morning for the first time since last Friday’s failed coup attempt in Turkey. A wide-ranging purge of military, police, politicians, and academics followed, with Turkey announcing a three month state of emergency.

The meeting began at 10am with the two leaders expected to continue with previous discussions about governance and regional developments.

Cyprus Weekly reports that various media outlets claim that President Akinci, who has insisted on negotiations proceeding without pressure from Turkey, is giving way.

There are also concerns of some possible impact on the talks, following the attempted coup in Turkey.

The two leaders will meet again on Monday.
