President Mustafa Akinci has argued that “as persons who have undertaken a responsibility, our duty is to do in full, whatever is necessary for paving the way for the Turkish Cypriot youth both in football and in other fields of sports and exerting efforts on this issue tirelessly”.
Addressing the award ceremony at the end of the 2015-16 football season in the TRNC, Akinci pointed to the importance of the TRNC national team and athletes participating in a number of international tournaments, in spite of the embargoes imposed on the TRNC.
On the same topic of TRNC youth sports, the President has sent details of the protocol signed by the government to establish Turkey’s youth and sport office in the TRNC to the Constitutional Court, to see whether or not it is in conflict with its constitution.
BRT reports that President Akinci’s office stated that he wanted to seek the Constitutional Court’s opinion as to whether or not the entire protocol is valid in law, with regard to articles 1, 2, 3 and 7 of the constitution.
