Turkey’s ties with North Cyprus on the political level have not progressed well in recent years, Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Mehmet Ali Talat has said.
Speaking on Kanal Sim, the CTP leader said, “The main responsibility for this belongs to Turkey because of its political approach”.
Referring to the establishment of the coalition government between the National Unity Party-Democratic Party (UBP-DP), Talat said that Turkey had given the green light for this coalition to be made and underlined that Turkey had not followed the tradition to visit the TRNC yet.
Commenting on recent developments in Turkey after the crucial summit between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, and Davutoglu’s decision not to be candidate for the AKP’s leadership at the general congress to be held on 22nd May, Talat said that in spite of the fact that it is an internal issue for Turkey, it is very important who the new AKP leader will be and how this will reflect on its relations with the TRNC.
