The inefficiency of the system for renewing road tax licenses is leading the TRNC to lose millions.
Around 25,000 vehicle owners did not renew their road tax in 2015 while 102,000 others deleted their registration. According to Havadis, 175,982 vehicles were registered in 2015 and only 135,406 of them had their road tax paid. As a result the TRNC received only 80, 316,270 Turkish Lira in licensing fees.
In statements to the newspaper, the chairman of the Motor Vehicle Dealers and Importers Association Ibrahim Akin, stated that North Cyprus must adopt European standards for road tax licensing, noting that this was the only remedy.
