Work to evacuate sea water from the submerged pipeline, which will convey fresh water from Turkey’s Alakopru Dam to the TRNC, begins next week.
The project team travelled to the dam at Anamur in southern Turkey to begin the process, provided there are no hold-ups. The pipeline is fitted with sensors and transmitters which will warn of any problems. It is estimated that the process will take a week, after which work begins to convey fresh water to the Gecitkoy dam in the TRNC.
DSI Cyprus Project Manager Birol Cinar said that so far, “There is no problem in working on the project”.
Meanwhile, onshore work continues to complete the network of distribution pipelines across the country.
