A Turkish Cypriot man who was stopped by Greek Cypriot customs officials, has been fined 9000 euros for attempting to smuggle 170 cartons of cigarettes from the TRNC into South Cyprus.
Police say that his car was stopped at the Pyla-Dhekelia road at around 8pm on Tuesday night where he was found to be in possession of the cigarette cartons.
He was taken to Oroklini police station and held in custody until he could make arrangements to pay the fine.
