Interior Minister Teberruken Ulucay visited the Metehan crossing point today and examined the newly-installed optical card readers. They were being installed at all crossing points from Ercan airport to the ports and borders, he said.
Ulucay said that the work on bringing the immigration staff cabins closer to the pavements would be completed next week as well. At a meeting at the Metehan crossing point with the UN it was suggested that the number of immigration officers on the south side be increased to two as there were more cars crossing into the south.
The minister responding to questions said that citizens were not obliged to get the new e-ID cards and the old ID card still remained valid.
