Turkish ex-President Abdullah Gul was in London addressing a panel at Chatham House think tank, Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Diyalog’ reports.
When asked if developments in Russia will impact on the energy security of Turkey, Gul said that Turkey has to obtain energy security from countries like Caucasus, Iraq, Iran. He added, however, that he believes the Eastern Mediterranean will be an important source for both Turkey and Europe in terms of large scale energy supply.
He also said that if the Cyprus problem is solved in a peaceful way, then the most convenient way for the natural gas reserves found off the coast of Cyprus to reach Europe is to combine them with Israel’s gas and to transport it via Turkey.
He concluded by saying that if there is constructive and a win-win approach, then he believes that this scenario could be realised.
