The Greek Cypriot Council of Ministers tomorrow will discuss the suggestion that the issue of hydrocarbons be negotiated in parallel with the Cyprus negotiations, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports.
Reports in the Greek Cypriot press are that the South is likely to turn down the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide’s suggestion and will want to remove it from the agenda.
‘Phileleftheros’ said that Eide will be arriving on the island this Monday adding that a consensus was reached regarding the management of hydrocarbons in meetings between former Greek Cypriot President Demetris Christofias and former Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat. According to ‘Phileleftheros’, the Greek Cypriots’ aim is to announce that they will not be discussing this issue until a comprehensive solution is found.
During tomorrow’s meeting of the party leaders, decisions on steps to be taken on the Cyprus problem and prevention of“Turkish provocations” will be discussed.
The newspaper also noted that South Cyprus received a promise from the US Vice- President Jo Biden who will be visiting Turkey on Friday, to discuss the Turkish marine activities in [South] Cyprus’ EEZ.
However, the press predict no meaningful results from Biden’s visit.
