Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades will meet with party leaders to brief them on the work being carried out by Andreas Mavroyiannis’ negotiating team in the Cyprus talks, ‘Famagusta Gazette’ reports.

In an attempt to bring all political parties onside and to try and break the deadlock in the talks, the President said there would be two meetings which would be held before his next meeting with Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu, scheduled for 2nd September.

He said that this was in an effort for “finding an orthodox way to address the ongoing dialogue”.

“We will go on with the proposed methodology and to this end during the next week there will be a meeting with the negotiator’s team and the leaders of the political parties to brief them on the work being done by the team and another one to listen to the reaction and the views of the political parties, certainly before the 2nd of September”, he explained.

According to Anastasiades, the second meeting will take place on the 1st of September.

Anastasiades said the two meetings would take place in addition to a three -day meeting of the National Council, the top advisory body to the President on the Cyprus question, for an in depth discussion on the Cyprus issue, before the President leaves to attend the United Nations’ General Assembly.

“Hopefully, through these initiatives aiming to prepare the Greek Cypriot side, there will be a broader consensus among the political parties as regards the national issue” the Greek Cypriot President said.
