The Bakara Cultural Center has been protesting for free entry to seaside beaches for 5 years.

This year it has been joined by a number of other organisations, including the Greenpeace Movement and Tango Cyprus Art and Culture Organisation.

Yesterday afternoon a number of protestors met in front of the Deniz Kizi Hotel in Alsancak. It was a good natured crowd, complete with ice creams and watermelons.

They met no resistance from hotel staff and entered the sea free of charge.

The protesters also gave a speech in which they said that it was the constitutional right of the people to use the sea side free of charge. However, in Kyrenia especially, this right was being constrained.

Nobody has the right to restrict entry to paying customers only. We call on local councils to do their duty, they said.
