Turkish Cypriot pilgrims will visit mosque in Larnaca

About 1,000 Turkish Cypriots will visit the Hala Sultan Tekke at Larnaca Salt Lake on Monday, the first day of Bayram, ‘Cyprus Mail’ reports.

Turkish Cypriot press reports have said that the chief negotiators in the Cyprus talks, Andreas Mavroyiannis and Kudret Ozersay, have agreed that the visit could go ahead next week. Ozersay that those who wished to visit the mosque would need to pre-register.

All visitors will have to take their IDs with them. Around 1,000 pilgrims will make the trip to the historic religious site, leaving from the Metehan/Ayios Dhometios checkpoint at 6.45 am on Monday with a police escort.

Meanwhile, the Department of Antiquities announced yesterday, that because so many visitors are expected, the Mosque will not be accessible between 7.30 am and 1 pm on Monday.
