If Turkey is planning to establish a Turkish state in Cyprus, it should forget about it, Archbishop Chrysostomos II of Cyprus said on Saturday, adding that no Cypriot will ever sign a solution allowing for this, ‘Famagusta Gazette’ reports.
The Head of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus was addressing an event at the village of Kornos, in Larnaca district, arranged by the organisations of relatives of undeclared prisoners and missing persons from Cyprus and Greece.
He urged Ankara to stop talking about accepting the “realities of two states” in the island, noting that Greek Cypriots will remain vigilant until Turkey and the powers that be finally realise that justice must be done.
Ankara should take note of this, if it wants a real solution, by which the two communities of Cyprus can live in peace, he went on.
Moreover the primate of the Church said that “Turkey must provide all evidence in its possession, both for the living and the dead”, noting the right of the relatives to properly commemorate their dead.
